Bio

Cindy Procious is a portrait artist, illustrator and cartoonist, living and working in Chattanooga, TN.

Cindy's paintings are founded on time-honored techniques of the Old Masters of the times past. Starting with the finest linen and highest quality archival materials, her paintings are crafted with elaborate under paintings, followed by carefully applied glazes, building up to many layers of delicate and intricate colors. Cindy's works come to life from a limited palette of earth colors. Her keen eye for composition, disposition of light, color and her handling of space set her works apart from the commonplace.

Cindy has been an artist from the moment she could wield a crayon. Her first public appearances as a child artist were in Jackson Square in New Orleans, Louisiana. At the tender age of 10, she was already amusing tourists in Jackson Square by her captivating caricatures of visitors to the Big Easy. In high school, Cindy was the president of the BHS National Art Honor Society for two years. After graduating from high school, she received a scholarship to attend the Memphis Academy of Arts to study fine arts and graphic arts. She continued her studies in art at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

She led a 5 year foray into political cartooning for the Huntsville Times. During that time, The Society for Professional Journalists named her as a finalist for the 2000 Green Eyeshade Award for Editorial Cartooning. Currently, Cindy produces cartoons for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, at Pfeelingood.com. She is also the creator of Grass Roots , a comic strip appearing in the Children's Sentinel Magazine published by the Christian Science Publishing Society. She is a member of the American Society of Portrait artists and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.

Cindy Procious is married to Clay Bennett, the Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, and has 3 children, Matt, Ben and Sarah.
